How Crossfit Changed My Business

When I first launched Caitydougherty.com and started freelancing full time, I wasn't quite sure what I was doing. I felt like I needed to be doing all of the things, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I couldn't nail down a schedule for myself. I'm sure most entrepreneurs feel that exact same way. There is always something that needs to be done or there is always ideas swirling around in your head. It's hard to take a step back and let yourself relax. 

I've always been a creative person and coming up with new ideas is one of my favorite things to do. Whether it is for clients or for a personal project, I find that even when I'm "off work" I'm still thinking about work. Part of is has to do with loving what I do but I also live in a studio apartment and I feel like work is always there when I'm home.

After a good 6 months of working on my own, I fell into a pattern of working all the time! Nights, weekends, you name it - if I wasn't already on my laptop I had it in my bag. I felt like I needed to work to grow and wasn't taking any time for myself. I didn't think that I had time to actually work on any self care. With a growing to do list, usually self care gets pushed to the bottom.. over and over again. I had started Crossfit about a year and a half ago and have been doing it off and on since then. I never made it an official part of my schedule because again, work came first. I noticed that when I made a conscious effort to stay on track with going, my brain and my productivity was that much better! I was getting away from my laptop for a designated hour a day and could relieve any stress that I was having that day out onto my workout. 


Now, I'm not saying that you have to do crossfit, but I highly recommend putting some kind of workout into your week! It is so important to keep your body and mind happy and healthy. Not only is working out great for your body but I found that is was way better for my productivity and mental health. I find that I'm more productive with my time when I keep up a good sweat schedule! So find something that you love to do. Whether that is Crossfit, Zumba, Yoga, running, or even just dancing in your living room, find something that you love to do and that will keep you moving. You can only be as a good of business owner as your body and mind will let you - so it's important to put your health first so you can be the best that you can be for your clients!
